Transfer and Reentry Center Reentry Scholarship Programs
The Bernard Osher Foundation, in recognition of the value of the UC Davis Reentry Program, has established a $1 million endowment to support scholarships for students 25–50 years old. The Osher Reentry Scholarships represent the largest award for reentry students on the UC Davis campus. We will award eight to ten $5,000 scholarships annually to new and continuing reentry students.
In 2016, the Bernard Osher Foundation recommended the UC Davis reentry program to the Crankstart Foundation. The Crankstart Foundation is the charitable outfit of Michael Moritz and his wife Harriet. The couple's philanthropy in the Bay Area is mainly focused on education, and arts and culture, but support has also gone to parks and human services. In October 2016 the Crankstart Foundation awarded a grant of $50,000 to UC Davis to support ten reentry scholarships of $5,000 each for the 2017-2018 academic year.
This scholarship application is for new and continuing UC Davis students who are undergraduates between the ages of 25 and 50. Your records with the Office of the Registrar and Undergraduate Admissions will be used as a part of this application to reduce the amount of information you must provide. You will be evaluated on your objective academic record and a subjective assessment of your potential based on the essay, recommendation, activities, and employment information.
To be eligible for consideration, students must meet the following criteria:
- Students must have experienced a cumulative gap in their education of five or more years.
- Students must be undergraduates pursuing their first baccalaureate degree.
- Students must demonstrate financial need (not necessarily based on the FAFSA).
- New UC Davis students must have a transfer cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above; continuing UC Davis students must have a UC cumulative GPA of 3.25 or above.
- Students must be between 25 and 50 years of age.
- Students must be in good academic standing, carry at least six units per quarter and be planning to register for at least two quarters of the 2017-2018 academic year.
Letter of Recommendation
One letter of recommendation is required to complete your application. New UC Davis students may submit letters from their community college faculty; continuing UC Davis students should submit a letter from a UC Davis faculty member or TA. As soon as you submit your Request a Letter of Recommendation form, an email will be sent to your recommender with the URL for them to complete the Letter of Recommendation. Please be sure to allow your recommender ample time to complete your request. Each year many students are not evaluated because of missing documents; it is your responsibility to verify receipt of all supplemental documents.
The Transfer and Reentry Center will obtain your UC Davis and other official transcripts (if applicable) to evaluate your academic progress. By submitting this application you understand and agree with this procedure.
Continuing UC Davis students: All documents, including application and letter of recommendation, must be submitted on-line no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017.
Newly admitted UC Davis students: All documents, including application and letter of recommendation, must be submitted on-line no later than 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2017.
