Study Skills at the Advising and Retention Services offers workshops and advising appointments every quarter to help students develop their time management, success strategies, and academic skills. Services are open to all UC Davis students.

Time Management Strategies

Come explore essential time management strategies that can help you accomplish tasks and stay organized within the fast pace of the quarter system.

Overcoming Procrastination

Learn how to identify and address your own procrastination behaviors, and as well as strategies and skills that can help you avoid procrastination in the future. 

Achieving Your Goals

This workshop talks about key elements of successful goal setting, including strategies to help you reach the goals you have defined.

Success Strategies

This workshop provides information, resources and strategies for holistic success at UC Davis, including academic and personal wellness. 

Developing Your Academic Motivation

Students with a growth mindset are in charge of their own academic and personal success. This workshop teaches how to develop a growth mindset in order to maximize educational opportunities and improve your academic outcomes.

Study Skills
Active Reading 

Wait, what did I just read? Come learn techniques to productively and effectively complete class readings, with a focus on meaning retention. 

Note Taking 

Pen and paper or laptop? This workshop presents various note-taking methods, along with practical tips on what to do before, during, and after the lecture.

Test Taking 

This workshop addresses how to best prepare for and strategically take tests. Exam formats and study strategies will be discussed, including techniques to manage test anxiety. 

Our 50-minute workshops take place in 114 South Hall, and no sign-ups are required. Check back in early September for our fall workshop schedule.

Advising

Appointments with a staff advisor are available for undergraduates who would like one-on-one assistance. Each appointment is 30 minutes and topics can include the following:

-Time management and goal setting

-Success strategies and academic motivation

-Study skills (reading, note taking, test taking)
